Astral Lungs. Nebulous Stargazer does not need to breathe.
Star Echo. At the end of each of Nebulous Stargazer’s turns, a radiant orb of light appears 1 feet above it and remains there for 1 minute. This “Star Echo” gives off bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. Nebulous Stargazer can utilize its Star Echoes in some of its additional features.
- If a Star Echo is within 30 feet of another Star Echo, they become connected with a 5-foot wide and 10-foot high “constellation line.” If a creature except for Nebulous Stargazer enters the line for the first time during their turn, or starts their turn there, they must make a DC 13 Constitution Saving Throw, taking 5(2d4) radiant damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.
Cosmic Glide. As a bonus action, Nebulous Stargazer can touch a Star Echo, and teleport within 5 feet of any part of any constellation line it is connected to.
Actions.
- Touch of the Void. Melee Spell Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) cold damage
- Echoing Supernova. Nebulous Stargazer teleports inside a Star Echo of its choice within 45 feet of it. The Echo then explodes and immediately disappears in a flash of silvery radiant light. Any creature within 15 feet of the explosion must make a DC 13 Constitution Saving Throw, taking 10(4d4) radiant damage and becoming blinded on a failure, or half as much damage and not being blinded on a success.
- Comet Blast. Nebulous Stargazer touches a Star Echo and pushes it in a line up to 30-foot long and 5-foot wide. Any creature caught in the area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7(4d4) radiant damage on a failure, or half as much on a success.
- Diluvian Nebula. Nebulous Stargazer creates a Star Echo within 30 feet of it, but none will appear at the end of its turn.
Also until the start of Stargazer’s next turn, All of its Star Echoes become enveloped in a psychedelically vibrant cosmic nebula. The Nebula is created in a 10-foot radius around each Star Echo and is a heavily obscured area for all creatures except for the Stargazer.
- While in a Nebula, Stargazer is invisible and can attempt to hide as a bonus action
- Any creature that starts their turn in a nebula or enters it for the first time during their turn must make a DC 13 Wisdom Saving Throw. On a failure, hallucinations and nightmarish visions appear in their mind, they take 5(2d4) psychic damage and become frightened of the nearest Star Echo until the end of their next turn. On a success, they only take half the amount of damage and are not frightened.
Lore.
Nebulous Stargazers are mysterious creatures that can be found in the most peculiar of places.
They are known to inhabit the deepest trenches of the ocean, but they have also been seen floating among the stars of the Astral Sea.
But sometimes, they also find their way to surface waters, mostly during a full-moon, to which they seem to be drawn.
No matter where they are found however, they are easy to recognize, for behind them they leave a slowly fading trail of what appear to be stars and nebulas that form the image of a constellation.
Despite its fantastical and ethereal allure however, one should beware to bask in its luminous light, as its brightness can prove itself overwhelming, and is sometimes even known to cause one’s mind to succumb to visions and hallucinations, ones that somewhat resemble early symptoms of eldritch corruption.
If forced to turn to hostilities, Nebulous Stargazer is capable of using its light and powers in a formidably dangerous fashion, utilizing their radiant and destructive properties to their full potential.
What their role in the ecosystem is, remains an enigma, but some rumours still prevail, and perhaps there is a grain of truth to some of the more prominent ones.
Some consider these creatures to be emblematic of corruption, things that were influenced by the ruinous dark powers that be, spreading their cosmic maddening light to creatures in the empty and void-filled places of the world and beyond.
Others think that they are born from fallen stars, hatching from their otherworldly eggs and gaining energy from this world until they can once again return to their home in the sky, which might explain their attraction to the moon and the Astral Sea.
Be they what they may, they have become sought after by brave adventurers, as their bodies can be a source of some very interesting resources. Their rare exotic meat is famed for its psychedelic properties that grants vigour and mind-addled energy to those that consume it, so it has become a delicacy among those favoring the more hedonistic pleasures of life.
Some attempts to harvest their skin and organs have also yielded results in being able to replicate their star-like powers and properties, which can have various uses in many fields, be it research, aesthetics or warfare.
But all that we know of these strange wondrous creatures is still only a small fraction of what might perhaps one day be unearthed.
One should be careful with knowledge however, for what is once known, can no longer be unknown, and some mysteries are better left unsolved.
