While holding this item, you can use your action to expend a number of your Hit Dice and become affected by one of the following effects, based on the number of Hit Dice expended:

• Springlike Legs (1 Hit Die). You gain the effects of the Jump spell for 1 minute.
• Elongated Limbs (2 Hit Dice). Your reach is increased by 5 ft. for 1 minute.
• Size Shift (3 Hit Dice). You gain the effects of the Enlarge/Reduce spell for 1 minute.
• Alteration (5 Hit Dice). You gain the effects of the Alter Self spell for 1 hour. 

If a Quicksilver Heart is melted and used to coat the Mercurial Tongs magical item, together they transform into the Tongs of Thousand Forms magical item

Mercurial Skin. A special silvery skin that feels almost rubbery to the touch, shifting a pliable like liquid quicksilver.

• It can be made into Mercurial Skin Armor after 5 days of crafting time and a successful DC 13 Dexterity (Leatherworker’s Tools) check. The DC is increased to 23 for creatures not proficient with Leatherworker’s Tools
