Ring of the Rattlesnake

Rare Wondrous Item (Ring), Requires Attunement

Backstabber’s Bane. This ring protects its wearer from unseen and sudden dangers, allowing them to not fall victim to assassinations and ambushes. Whenever there is danger nearby, the wearer begins to hear the rattling of a snake, warning them of imminent threats.

  • You cannot be surprised while attuned to the ring.
  • Once per minute, when first targeted by an attack, the ring immediately conjures the effects of the Shield spell on you.

Courtly Caution. You can use your action to detect the direction and distance of the nearest poison or poisonous creatures within 60 feet of you until the end of your next turn. If there is a poison within that area, the ring starts to vibrate on your finger, and you begin to hear the rattling of a Rattlesnake that increases in intensity the closer you are to the poison.
You can use this feature an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus. This feature recharges upon finishing a long rest.

Unseen Protection. Once per long rest, you can cast the Mage Armor spell on yourself using the ring, and give yourself 1d10 temporary hit points for the duration. As long as you have these temporary hit points, you have resistance to poison damage and cannot be affected by the damage from Surprise Attack/Sneak Attack features.
